Our total exports to Japan in 2016, which was 350 million dollars rose to 400 million dollars in 2017. Turkey’s food exports to Japan amounted to 154 million dollars in 2017, ” he said.
Tarakçıoğlu thanked the Tokio Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey Hasan Murat Mercan, for his interest and for assuming the role of a facilitator during the exhibition.
“GREAT INTEREST IN JAPANESE MARKET”
“We can say that the fair was successful. Generally, participators in the exhibit intended to make purchases. This has enabled our companies to have lots of efficient meetings. We are happy about this. As Turkey, we have took the spotlight with legumes, olive oil and dried fruit. Our traditional export products attracted great interest. We must also state that organic products are an important market in Japan. In the Foodex 2018, we saw that we need to focus on organic products as Turkey for the Japanese market. In this respect, the fair has created awareness among our exporters. In addition to all of this, we have been organizing a Turkish food tasting event for the past three years, this year is the fourth. This event has also evoked great interest. In the past years we have been doing this event with Japanese chefs; this year we have organized it with a Turkish chef. Different menus were prepared three times a day and were offered to participants and visitors. We were happy to see long lines in our tasting events. It was nice to see a smile on the faces of Japanese people. I must point out that our new ambassador in Japan works very actively. He is a diplomat that is aware of the fact that Turkey has great potential in food and agricultural products. He informed and has directed our company representatives about the market very well. We thank him for this” said Tarakçıoğlu.
