Olive oil exports breaking records

Turkish olive oil exporters’ the performance of the current season which started on 1 November 2017, left behind the same period of 2012-2013 season, breaking exportation record of all times. Exportation value reached to 143 million 306 thousand dollars with an increase of 51 percent.

According to the information received from the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association, the one and only roof association for olive oil in Turkey, exports between 1 November 2012-31 October 2013 with 92 thousand tons of actual external lines was the highest number since present day.

In the first 4 months of the olive oil export season which started on November 1st 2017, Turkish exporters showed a high performance. Olive oil exportation in November 2017-February 2018 period increased 15.6 percent increase from 30 thousand 490 tons to 35 thousand 246 tons of output.

This year, the increase in export value per unit of foreign sales is 51 percent.

Targeting “100 thousand tons of olive oil exports” in the 2017-2018 season, the sector continues to work through foreign market.

TARGETING NEW RECORDS

Emre Uygun, Vice Chairman of Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association said that Turkish exporters show the best performance in recent years.

“It is worth noting that there is a significant increase in exports in comparison to the 2012-2013 season when the record is broken” Uygun said.

“The main point is the increase in export unit prices. Average of export value of olive oil which is about 3 thousand dollars per ton in the 2012-2013 season is over 4 thousand dollars this season. It is definetely the mostimportant the for us. Our producers have evaluated the product better and also from the prices rising abroad, our exports will continue for as long as we are able to produce in quantities that can be exported to foreign markets” Uygun commented.

“This year, our official figure in olive oil is 287 thousand tons, while the production figures in Spain, are 1.7 million tons in average, and this is the highest figure of the Turkish history” Uygun said.
