Aegean Exporters’ Associations saw an 8 percent increase in exports in October. With this increase, the Association has exported 49 million 343 thousand dollars in the last month. Nurettin Tarakçıoğlu, Chairman of the Executive Board of Aegean Exporters’, highlights that this positive statement emerges despite the political developments in Turkey during the year. Tarakçıoğlu emphasizes that the period of change in Turkey does not affect production and exports and that the Turkish economy goes on with the international trades with its potential and dynamism as usual.
Mr. Tarakçıoğlu, what are your comments on the Aegean, which is your region in the sectors of furniture, paper, and non-wood forest products?
2017 has been a year of political turmoil for Turkey. This situation unavoidably messes with our sectors too. However, I can say that we have spent this year without a decrease, especially in furniture exports, compared to the last year. Regional declines have been experienced, but the increase, in general, has compensated for this. So, we concentrated more on new markets this year. The exchange factor also affected us at this conjuncture.
In general, we can look favorably on the performance of non-wood forest products in the year 2017. I can say that we are having a good year despite the difficulties caused by internal factors such as the supplying of the goods.
There are many critical events happening in the area Turkey is located. What are the consequences of these events for you?
I should state that in the negotiations we make with our associates, they ask questions about the political and the social status of Turkey as well. We told them that there is a change in progress in Turkey and this process may have some consequences. However, you see that the business life and the production are not affected by this situation. As Turkey, we continue our international business with the same dynamism and the same potential.
What are your plans and expectations for the year 2018?
In 2018, we will go through the world map again and will continue working for delivering the quality Turkish export products to many more places on a global scale. We will produce special projects for the United States of America. There is a significant capital accumulation in the East and as the exporters of Turkey, we will take our share of that accumulation. We will carry the Turkish image and Turkish products there too.
