Fresh fruits, vegetables and products exportation of Aegean Region followed an increasing route in October. Members of Aegean Fresh Fruits, Vegetables and Products Exporters’ Association realized 75,3 million dollars exportation during the month. Association members reached more than 614 million dollars in first 10 months of 2017. Rıza Seyar, Chairman of Aegean Fresh Fruits, Vegetables and Products Exporters’ Association stated that crises with Russia in 2017 had been an important experience for Turkish producers and exporters.
Mr. Seyyar, could you please share your comments on performance of fresh fruits, vegetables and products sector exportation in 2017?
2017 is being a positive period for fresh fruits, vegetables and products sector in terms of raw material supply. We can only say that little obstacles had seen in gherkin; but the production process is over to a large extent. Besides, large producers finished raw material and semi-products supply and completed their production. There’s no major problem. In terms of fresh product export, again I can say that the performance is pretty good. We have an increase of 12 percent country wide in first 9 months. Product exportation also rose by 7 percent which is very important. We did not face any major problem.
What was the effect of crisis between Russia and Turkey on sector?
I personally think that crisis with Russia is not a determinative factor for fresh fruits, vegetables and products sector. Russia is a huge and irreplaceable market for Turkey. As Turkish exporters, we have the capability to compensate the gaps occurring at Russian market with alternative markets. Crisis are hard, but they teach us to find new markets. Also crisis with Russia had been an important experience for Turkish producers and exporters. We tested our strength and capabilities.
What do you foresee for 2018?
Trend we caught this can be expected to continue in 2018. Either way we have 7 or 8 percent increase. Even 20 percent increases are possible to happen in fresh fruits and vegetables due to crop amount and quality. So 2018 will be no different than 2017, we are hopeful.
