Akhisar will have a great impact again on 26 November World Olive Day, which was celebrated last year for the first time. Ahmet Eşref Fakıbaba, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, is expected to attend the event.
Akhisar, the flagship of the industry with 14 million olive trees in Turkey, will celebrate the 26th of November World Olive Day with various events. The importance of olives for health will be highlighted in the activities that will take place under the olives in Taş Konak. The representative of the International Olive Council located in Spain and many famous names from Ayhan Sicimoğlu to Sahrap Soysal, will enrich the activities. In the panel to be organized, the future of the industry will be discussed.
Alper Alhat, the Chairman of Akhisar Commodity Exchange Board of Directors, remarked that Bakan Fakıbaba, who is expected to attend, is a medical doctor and said, “Olive is the healthiest fruit of the world. Minister Fakbaba is also one of the leading defenders of health. No one knows olives and health better than him. We want everyone to consume our olive oil and we want the success to be declared by our dear minister here in Akhisar.
Akhatar stated that Akhisar, who holds 70 percent of the table olive industry and 20 percent of the olive oil industry, has successfully completed cold compressions within the scope of early harvesting and that the harvest of domat and soft olives will end and the trilye will last until the end of the year, and said ” We take good care of our olive trees. Thanks to our good agricultural practices, we get very high quality products from our 14 million trees. Thousand-year-old trees are the most important evidence of how Akhisar protected the olive”, while remarking that Akhisar has the same climate with the Toscana which is at a good spot in terms of olive and olive oil.
Stating that other than olive, Akhisar will be the brand-city of olive oil too, Alhat said: “World Olive Day is a day that we all should think about our health. An important day reminding us again to use healthy products. If we take good care of any kinds of trees, the fruit that it gives takes good care of us. That is why it is very important for our minister, who is coming to the World Olive Day, to tell the public about the role of olive in health as, a medical doctor.”
MY OLIVE OIL IS FROM AKHISAR
Alhat pointed out that Akhisar made a significant difference this year and went on: ‘’ “We produce 70 percent of table olives in Turkey. We are a city that gives direction to the sector because of our quality. Now we are starting to get olive oil at the same high quality. In the first sample analysis for early harvest cold compressions, the acid ratio was below 0.2 percent (2 Dizay). It means perfect oil. Saying ”My olive oil is from Akhisar” is equivalent to saying ”I am consuming high quality olive oil”. Olive oil of Akhisar means reliance.’’
CONSUME OLIVE THREE TIMES A DAY
Remarking that olive and olive oil is the base of the Mediterranean diet recommended by doctors, Alhat said, “We need to use olive and olive oil in each meal in order to raise healthy generations. Especially olive is one of the best sources of carbohydrates, fat and protein. It is rich in terms of vitamins and minerals. You should make Mediterranean cuisine and regular exercise a way of life for being healthy “.
