According to archaeological records, the world’s oldest olive oil production facility which dates back to B.C. 6th century and is located in the ancient city of Klazomenai in İzmir-Urla. During the first 11 months of the 2016-2017 season, Turkey’s general table olive exports amounted to 54 thousand tons in terms of volume and 103 million US dollars in terms of amount. Olive exports of 12 thousand tons in amount and 33 million $ in table olives were exported to Germany, which is the first place in our table olive export with a 32% share.
On the other hand, our olive oil exports for the first 10 months of the same season were 39 thousand tons with a 339% increase on quantity basis compared to the previous season, resulting in USD 152 million foreign exchange income. In the European Union, which is the biggest custodian of our olive oil exports with 48%, the countries that we export most are Spain, Italy and Germany respectively.
Since the establishment of Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters Association in Turkey, we work towards the aim of producing 650 thousand tons of olive oil and 1 million 200 thousand tons table olives until 2023. Our country continues to work for the development of olive and olive oil sector with full speed.
