Exportation of cereals, pulses, oil seeds and products in Turkey

Founded in 1940, Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters Association today has an important share in Turkey’s exports with close to 300 members. The sector, with its escalating graphics, has become one of the dynamics of the country’s economy, both in terms of production and export.

In addition to the fertility of the land with the availability of climate conditions, the Aegean Region is in an important position with its production and modern agricultural methods in operation, oil seeds, spices and the products that are made from these. Cereal pulses of oil seeds and products sector cover large-scale processed food products. The sector, which has an important place in agricultural products, manufactures suitable and elegant packages for the international food standards and Turkish Food Codex. The main products of the sector are; vegetable oils (sunflower oil, margarine, etc.), cocoa products (chocolate, cocoa foods etc.), sugar products (all kinds of products such as wheat flour, wheat flour etc.), confectionery products (biscuits, wafers, cakes, pasta etc.) candy, halva, lokum, gum etc.) and spices (cumin, anise, fennel, coriander etc.).

The sector has a wide market of exports to a total of 146 countries, bringing together 404 different products to the world. In the sector exports, the weight of the countries of the middle eastern region stands out in addition to the European Union countries. Spices are among the first products in the sector sub-group exports and products that derive from wheat, food products, oil seeds, pulses, cereals products, confectionery products and vegetable oils are also among the first.

The share of the European Union countries in the exports of Turkey’s Generic Cereal Pulses and Oil Seeds and Products sector in the year 2016 is 11%. In January-August 2017 period, the share of the sector is 10%. Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom have an important place in Turkey’s exports.

The share of the European Union countries in the exports of Grain Pulses and Oilseeds and Products made in our region in 2016 is 14%. In the January-August period of the year 2017, the share received from the Aegean region was 17%, based on the exports made to the European Union countries. When the sub-sectors of the association are examined, it is seen that the top ten countries that have the highest number of exports in 2017 are Germany, Holland, England, France, Sweden, Belgium, Greece, Hungary, Italy and Romania.
