Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters Association Chairman Davut Er, states that high numbers for olive oil during the last term is a result of integrated prices and significant amount of increase in production

Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters Association Chairman Davut Er, relates high increase of export to integration of Turkish market prices with global prices and increase of production. Er, emphasizes that extra virgin olive oil production share has increased to 60% of the total olive oil production.

Turkey has a remarkable increase in olive oil production and export. What does it relate to?

Turkey reached record levels of increase for olive and olive oil export this year. When compared to last season, there is more than 400% increase. If you have noticed, Turkey prices have integrated with global prices. We would like this situation to continue. We must also emphasize the current increase of olive and olive oil production. Turkey has the potential to produce much more.

What are the Turkish olive oil market improvement practices? What are the target markets for the future?

Turkish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock has 1,2 million tons of table olive and 650 thousand tons of olive oil production goals for the year 2023. This is a good goal. If this can be achieved, Turkey will be a leader country for olive and olive oil globally and will be a market maker. Currently we are focusing on countries like India, Japan, and China and this tendency will continue for the next period. We must underline that Saudi Arabia is one of top 10 importers from Turkey. That means, Turkish olive oil may be sold in all markets.

What is Turkish olive oil quality level compared to leading international companies?

Thanks to the newly set up modern press facilities, Turkish olive oil quality has been increased substantially. We are going to make sure this increase will continue. Mass production and early harvest increase the quality of our olive oil. This year the Turkish olive farmers have harvested early which led to more extra virgin but less Riviera olive oil production. Extra virgin’s share in Turkey’s total olive oil production is %60.

What kind of promotion activities are being carried out?

Last year, we have participated to 8 trade fairs as Olive and Olive Oil Promotion Committee. The activities that were realized by the Committee had a lot of contribution for recognition of Turkish olive and olive oil. From now onward, the authorization in the sense of promotion is in the hands of Turkish Ministry of Economy and Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM). Turkish Promotion Group will lead the activities and work within the structure of TİM.  We are expecting Turkish Promotion Group to have a greater budget for the promotion of Turkish olive and olive oil.
