Today there are 19 free zones in Turkey, with a total annual trade volume of 23 billion USD, making up 6% of Turkey’s foreign trade. Although Turkey has been a country with a foreign trade deficit, exports have exceeded imports by 10% in free zones in Turkey in the last three years. Started in 1990, Aegean Free Zone is one of the fastest developing and prospering free zones in Turkey. In the Aegean Free Zone, exports have exceeded imports by 54% in the last three years.
ESBAS, the founding and managing company of Aegean Free Zone, has long been engaged in efforts to expand the free zone to accommodate more investors, under the aegis of the Ministry of Economy. A Cabinet decision on expansion of the Aegean Free Zone borders, dated Aug.3, 2016, has been published in the Official Gazette, as a result of these efforts. Within the scope of this decision, ESBAS will immediately start development of the expansion area, which is adjacent to the Aegean Free Zone.
